Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children has finally become a film. The film was shot in Sri Lanka. What makes the filming of this project especially interesting is it was originally suspended because Iran complained to Sri Lanka. The completion of this film comes after a 1997 attempt by the BBC was stopped. Although the film is actually set in Pakistan and India, it was shot in Sri Lanka to avoid interruption from protests.
Rushdie recently spent time with the beautiful Olivia Wilde. The two engaged in a discussion about foreign policy. Reports indicate Salman is very close with both of her parents.
Students at City College put on a production of Rushdie’s work at the beginning of May. A team leader from the college said he was really pleased with the outcome of the production because it’s a story that appeals to both children and adults.
The ability to appeal to readers of all ages also applies to Rushdie’s latest book. He released Luka and the Fire of Life at the end of 2010. The book is 240 pages in length. This is actually a sequel to his 1990 work, Haroun and the Sea of Stories.
One interesting note about this book is Rushdie said he looked to video games as a source of inspiration while writing Luka and the Fire of Life. While this may sound strange for such an accomplished author, Salman specifically wanted to target a younger audience with this work.
