Salman Rushdie is a famous novelist who is best known for “Midnight’s Children,” which one the Booker Prize. Focusing on the connection and disruption between the Eastern and Western worlds, this British and Indian man married Padma Lakshmi, an Indian American actress and model.
Salman Rushdie and Padma Lakshmi were married in April of 2004 and filed for divorce in July of 2007. Padma Lakshmi was Rushdie’s fourth wife. Lakshmi was the one to decide to end the marriage, leaving Padma Lakshmi very hurt and broken.
Lakshmi went on record saying that she was broken up and hurt by his decision to end the marriage. She moved into hotel, putting all of her belongings in storage as she tried to pick up her life again.
Lakshmi is the host of the hit television show Top Chef in the United States. Official reports from the couple state that her demanding schedule caused them to spend less and less time together, making them drift apart slowly. There have been reports of Lakshmi with another man, as well as problems between her and Rushdie’s many children. She flatly denied these, however, and Rushdie himself never said anything about these rumors. Lakshmi has said many times they were happy and in love but just happened to drift apart.
